Google CSS Partner Alternatives: Which Provider Type Suits Your Shop

All certified CSS partners deliver the same auction advantage. What differs is price, commitment, and what extras you get. Here are the three provider types and the questions that help you decide quickly.

Anyone looking for an alternative to their current CSS partner usually has a specific reason: the bill grows with the budget, an extra country costs more, or the support no longer fits.

The auction advantage is not a selection criterion here. Google passes on roughly 20 percent lower cost per click compared to Shopping directly via Google equally to every certified Comparison Shopping Service (CSS).

Things get interesting with everything else. Broadly speaking, there are three types of providers, and they suit very different shops.

Type 1: A large agency's CSS

Here, CSS access is part of a service package: campaign management, feed work, consulting. This works well if you want to hand over your Shopping campaigns anyway.

It does not fit if you only need the auction advantage. You would then be paying for services you already handle yourself or with your own agency.

Type 2: The platform with extra tools

These providers combine CSS access with a proprietary dashboard, feed analytics, and sometimes automated bidding. The pricing is often tiered: a base fee plus a surcharge per country or tier.

  • Makes sense if you actually use these tools daily.
  • Expensive if you sell in multiple countries and each country costs extra.
  • Check: What happens to your data and rules if you leave the platform?

Type 3: Pure CSS access for a fixed price

This type does one thing: your products run via a certified CSS, while you keep full control of your Merchant Center, campaigns, and bids. The price is fixed, regardless of budget and revenue.

That is how we work. £17 per month, no setup fee, no revenue share, 21 markets included, 30-day free trial, cancel monthly.

For shops that manage their campaigns in-house or via an agency, this is usually the most cost-effective option with the exact same auction advantage.

The point almost nobody compares: invalid clicks

A CSS makes every click cheaper. However, it does not filter out clicks that were never going to result in an order. Bots, price crawlers, and competitor clicks cost full price and look like normal visitors in your reports.

Always ask any provider whether they offer anything for this at all. With us, it is an optional add-on with two tangible components:

  • Automated exclusion lists for suspicious sources so they do not waste any more budget.
  • Invalid clicks report so you know the exact share instead of guessing.

Important context: in standard Shopping campaigns, sources can be excluded directly. In Performance Max, this is technically limited, so the value lies in detection and analysis.

Four questions, then the choice is clear

  1. 1Do you want to outsource campaign management or just get the auction advantage? That decides between Type 1 and Type 3.
  2. 2How many countries do you sell in? From the third market onwards, surcharges per country get expensive.
  3. 3Is your budget growing? Then avoid any share of revenue or click costs.
  4. 4Do you know how many of your clicks are invalid? If not, finding out is the next sensible step.

Switching itself is straightforward, by the way. Only the CSS link of your Merchant Center is changed; your campaigns and history remain completely untouched.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a cheaper CSS inferior?

Not when it comes to the auction advantage. That comes directly from Google and is identical across all certified partners. Cheaper usually just means that extras like campaign management are not included.

Can I use multiple CSS providers in parallel?

Yes, that is possible and sometimes useful for larger product ranges. However, it increases management overhead because multiple Merchant Center associations have to be maintained.

How much does your CSS cost?

£17 per month across 21 markets, with no setup fee and no revenue share. The first 30 days are free.

How long does switching take?

Usually a few working days. Your campaigns continue running throughout because only the CSS association in the Merchant Center is swapped.

Is protection against invalid clicks included in the price?

No, it is a separate add-on to the CSS. That way, you only pay for it if it makes a difference for your account.
