Google Shopping Ads launch in Slovenia – what advertisers need to know
From March 2027, Google Shopping Ads will be available in Slovenia for the first time – as the 15th and final country of Google Shopping's expansion into new European markets. Slovenia is the only one of these countries launching directly with local-language support in Slovenian, and is the wealthiest of the new Western Balkans and Adriatic markets.
The market at a glance
Slovenia is the westernmost and wealthiest of the former Yugoslav republics, an EU member since 2004 and a Eurozone member since 2007. With around 2.1 million inhabitants and per-capita GDP close to the EU average, Slovenia offers a high-purchasing-power, digitally savvy consumer base.
Ecommerce market volume for 2025 is estimated at around USD 1.07 billion, with growth projected to USD 1.58 billion by 2030 (CAGR 8.12%).
- Market volume 2025: ~USD 1.07bn
- Growth forecast to 2030: ~USD 1.58bn (CAGR 8.12%)
- Population: ~2.1m
- Language: Slovenian (official); English and German widely spoken
- Currency: Euro
- EU member: Yes (since 2004)
- Port of Koper: key logistics hub for Central Europe
Direct launch in Slovenian
Slovenia is the only country launching Phase 2 directly in the local language – there is no English-language transition period. That means: advertisers who want to be there from day one need Slovenian feed translations ready in time before March 2027.
Slovenian is a distinct language (not interchangeable with Croatian or Serbian) and requires professional translation – machine quality is not enough for production feed use.
Strategic opportunities for advertisers
- Wealthiest new market in the region: Slovenia has the highest purchasing power among the Western Balkans and Adriatic markets in this expansion. Premium positioning has better odds here than in the other new markets.
- Port of Koper as a logistics edge: Via the port of Koper and rail connections to Austria, shipments can be handled quickly and cheaply. Cross-border lead times from DACH are short.
- DACH proximity: Austria borders Slovenia directly. Many Slovenes are familiar with Austrian and German brands, shop cross-border, and value German quality standards.
- Stable digital infrastructure: EU cohesion funds of EUR 147m for fibre and 5G (2025) are continuously modernising digital infrastructure.
- Top categories: Electronics, fashion, home goods, outdoor (Alpine tourism).
CSS requirements
Slovenia is an EU member state. Shopping Ads must therefore be served through a qualified CSS partner (Comparison Shopping Service).
Checklist: preparing for launch (March 2027)
- Commission Slovenian product feed translations by Q1 2027 at the latest
- Secure CSS coverage for Slovenia
- Review shipping routes via Austria and the port of Koper
- Prepare campaign structure for SI
- Configure conversion tracking for .si landing pages
- Budget planning: pencil in Q2 2027 as the first full campaign period
Bottom line
Slovenia arrives later than the other 14 markets – but directly localised and as the highest-purchasing-power new market of the entire expansion. The time until March 2027 should be used for professional translation and technical preparation.
